The captain of the 'Fishing Just for Kids' charter boat is Patrick DeFazio of Ottawa, Ontario. Captain Pat has loved fishing since he was a child and has been an avid fisherman for most of his adult life. Now, he wants to share this wonderful sport with the families of region, as well as visitors
to the Nation's Capital.
He has been a professional fishing guide on Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River for the past 10 years. Over the years, Pat has appeared on sports TV shows in Ottawa and PBS in Watertown, NY. See Page 3 of his Photo Album.
Last summer (2000) Pat inaugurated "Fishing Just for Kids©" fishing charters. Captain Pat also provides fishing charters for grown-ups and corporate clients, including night fishing. For more information, rates and pictures see Page 4 of the Photo Album.
Pat's eldest son Travis, 8 yrs old, is his skipper. Sometimes, his younger son, Ridge also joins in this family venture. Travis knew port and starboard before he learned his left and right. He assists his father in teaching kids nautical terms and water safety.
As reported in the Ottawa Sun on August 10, 2000, "We want to get kids away from video games and computers. We want to get them outside where they can learn about nature and our environment, and they love it."
This is the only "child-oriented" fishing tour in the Ottawa area. Capt'n Pat and Skipper Travis teaches parents and kids the basics of good fishing. The tour leaves from Hogs Back Marina and cruises down the Rideau River and back.
Captain Pat says it is amazing to see kids getting their money together to book their tour.
